Digging Durrington

Hi, Pete,
Just out of interest, how much importance is attached by current archaeologists in checking old excavations from the time when techniques weren't as thorough, e.g. Cunnington's, (and how trusted are excavations of the past), weighed against new excavations?
Regards,
TE.

This is the reason they have reopened the Woodhenge trench that Maud Cunnington first dug.
When Pitts did his dig at the sanctuary he discovered that Cunningtons excavations of the post holes left dateable evidence at the bottom of the post holes.
Today they unearthed a large fragment of Bluestone at the Woodhenge trench which is interesting as they are investigating two stoneholes that Cunnington seemed unsure about.
The Cursus dig also uncovered its first piece of Bluestone.
I have posted a few panos and I am working with someone else on a weblog....
