>It is a dreadful place of peat hags and mire. It is the scariest place I have ever been to, though some people like it. I don't know anything about its pre-history and it may have been drier once. There are weird natural rock formations, but everywhere it is wet, black and treacherous. I got lost there when the mist came down and it was really very frightening.<

Chuckle, that sounds like somewhere straight out of Beowulf :-) I heard on the radio a few days ago (unfortunately missed the first bit) that a film of Beowulf is being made - might be wrong on that though.

Yes - I have heard that a film of Beowulf is planned. It would be terrific if done well.

there are not one but 2 Beowulf films:

"Beowulf" is in production just now and is an American film directed by Robert Zemeckis (of Back To The Future fame)

"Beowulf & Grendel" is a British / Icelandic / Canadian co-production filmed in Iceland and starring mainly Scandinavian actors and Gerard Butler in the title role. it should be out early this year http://www.beowulf-movie.com
