"What interested me was the fact that there had been no trace of human transportation of any stones to the mid south eastern region.".... "Surely the prehistoric Londoners had a similar religion to their neighbours in Wessex"

But is there much evidence of long distance transportation in Wessex? (apart from Stonehenge, and both the bluestones and the sarsens there may yet be proven to have been found very nearby)

It's interesting to me, living on the Herts, Beds, Bucks borders that there are quite a few barrows, camps & mounds but very few stone monuments. There are a couple of standing stones and, going on other reports, these are likely to be glacial waste rather than quarried & transported for a specific purpose.
