Local Stones

It's interesting to me, living on the Herts, Beds, Bucks borders that there are quite a few barrows, camps & mounds but very few stone monuments. There are a couple of standing stones and, going on other reports, these are likely to be glacial waste rather than quarried & transported for a specific purpose.

I guess you get your stones near at hand (common sense) or far away (ritual need). You'd only believe in the existence of the latter motivation if you had evidence of them ignoring the former, and I'm not sure if there's much evidence of that.
