Talking of windows, have you been to the nearby church at Goodmanham? It's on the site of a Druidic and then Saxon shrine/temple and its windows show scenes of a recently-christianised 7th century king destroying it. An interesting area!

that pic doesn't really show the best view of the windows. face on they really do look like the monolith. when you visit i assure you you wont be able to deny the similarity. may be coincidence but seems strange that they should be that shape. could they be designed so to show respect for the earlier pagan use of the site. ?

I dunno.. I doubt it. There wasn't a great deal of respect there. After all the monolith was a projectile thrown at the church by that nasty fellow Satan.
I guess you could look at other medieval churches of the same period to see if it was a standard form.
