i know what you mean,
but look at the East of the island. no mountains. east anglia is very flat.
the figure follows the penines.

i'm sure if it was an amalgamation of trade route knowledge, there would have been an awareness of all the roads into the east, but the penines is, like, the main road.

with this in mind, the whole figure is an uncanny match.

Well you could also drop the back end a bit to keep it lined up with the Pennines ;)
One big gain of tilting it is to get the front leg more pointing along the SW-NE chalk ridge route equating with the Ridgeway, which would presumably be very significant to them.

If you look at early maps of The British Isles they look nothing like the real thing. Perhaps you should compare the figure to the earliest maps available.

Also, you need to compare the figure as it was originally, not how it looks now. The figure was a lot fatter when it was first constructed. There are drawings around somewhere of the supposed original form (found through geo-fizz I think).

Interesting thought though.
