I've never seen any official ages for the horse and have always assumed it was Iron Age (same as the coins) and contemporary with the fort.

David Miles did an excavation there and established an age.
I can't find the report online at the moment but I think it concluded its iron age.

that's cool. but i never heard of iron age coins before - i thought money came later. if they stuck the horse on a coin then it must have had some 'value' right? but money used to be holy too didn't it?

the thing about this horse is that it's this very beautiful - almost picasso-like - image to the modern eye when seen from above - a perspective never enjoyed by its makers - unless you take astral projection seriously (which I might).

Last year that there was news of that blind guy who did those amazing paintings by 'feel' - that seems interesting and somehow important to me in understanding the shapes and forms of these places. I don't belive they were 'seen' then the way they are now - and that's important in terms of how we imagine the meaning of alignments no?
