It's hard to see Picked hill and not think of Silbury - well I thought so too, Moss.
(What's Devereux's double sunrise theory?)
I think the sun sort of bounced along on the horizon, disappearing and then appearing again - but never worry, his book.....

Symbolic landscapes: dreamtime earth and Avebury's open secrets: Paul Devereux

is on the way from the library. As for Tiompan's declinations I'm completely lost ;)

I thought I did mention the simple bit i.e. if you looked from the northern point of Marden henge at summer solstice you would see the sun rise over the top of Picked Hill . Whether that was of any interest to those who built Marden is something else . The other "line" Marlborough Mound -Picked Hill is the same orientation of the winter moon set at it's furthest south in the it's 18.6 yr cycle but you wouldn't see it from the mound due to the intervening White Horse Hill .On what day does the Sun do it's bounce along the horizon and viewed from where ?

Marden (maybe from the top of the mound) to Picked Hill sounds pretty convincing to me - you'd imagine you could have see one from the other. Well I can imagine it in my overactive little mind, at least hehe. I do like things I can actually see. But you saying that about Stonehenge being due south.. it really is isn't it. I can see why people get into all sorts of Theories.

"On what day does the Sun do it's bounce along the horizon and viewed from where ?"

You'll have to wait till the book comes, it will probably be 21st June, not always convinced by Devereux, but Pete put a photo up not so long ago, of a view from the top of Silbury, and it must have been that horizon towards Marlborough I think... As for Picked Hill, its a strange old hill that maybe could be seen from Marden, and of course it lies in the corridor of the Vale of Pewsey between Avebury/Stonehenge.....
