But if you have to stand in a certain spot to see the moon 'in' the circle, then if there's too many people there over two nights, it'll be a bun-fight.

And this is one of my reasons for not believing the lunar thing 100%. . (though I love the idea of it and certainly have no better theories).

'bun fight' .... as good a reason as any to visit Lewis/Callanish.

I would imagine that only a select handful of priests would have stood at 'the' spot and observed the moon framed at the far end of the stone setting. Most people would/will be able to see the moon rise, ride along Sleeping Beauty and then disappear again.

It's when it reappears again framed by the two stones that will require quite precise positioning I would have thought. At this point the moon's 'energy' will be projected down the alignment at the person (nearly wrote bloke [tut!]) standing waiting for it.
