it is quite a dodgy map, hard to compare with the OS map if you have a look. There are so many sarsen stones in the general area... And there's more than one 'cromlech' on that map if you notice, to add to the general mystery.

If it's from the 1830s, and something was there then, then you'd think trusty old Stukeley would have had something to say about it previously?

That's the very local I was thinking of. (I wouldn't be so mean as to be suggesting you go Jane).
Re-thinking it, the stones must have been called that for ages - if the recumbent ones are part of it then it must have been a ginormous scary thing. Maybe the farm was named after it, rather than the other way round?
I noticed the other cromlech and don't know what that is either. Come on Pete.
