on the 1850's os map there is both a lampton castle(site of) and a Lampton Hall (site of). They are both one opposite sides of the river, which is interesting, bridges being difficult to maintain. they are joined by a Lamb Bridge.

I think that our search are is between Lampton Hall and Worm Hill. There are a number of un-named wells on the sourthern side, and well as Lampton Well, none that I can see on the North side, Alothough Worm Hill is on the North.

I'm still looking into this, will come up with some definitive guesses later!

Interesting that the name "Brugeford" refers to crossing the river.

I may as well come right out and say it: I believe the Worm to be the spirit of the river. Wear is Wer is Ver the water goddess.
