Interesting that the name "Brugeford" refers to crossing the river.
I may as well come right out and say it: I believe the Worm to be the spirit of the river. Wear is Wer is Ver the water goddess.
I think that's a reasonable postulation. The link with the well is a good signpost. It is obvious that the myth probably pre-dates the crusades.
I'd still like to know why it's Pensher Hill that's got the earthworks and not Worm Hill.
While we are at it perhaps we can do some resistivity, I'd like to prove the earthworks went around the hill.
