True, in part. Rose glasses allround sofar as doc. was concerned but given what we "know" now would we do differently. Imagine a hypothetical newly found site with international importance, basically intact but situated beneath a rather run down settlement and with huge funds (in our dreams) to excavate, restore,what would we do differently now? With so many pressure groups, would anything at all get done while the site gently detioriated? With hindsight one can criticize Keiller but he possibly saved Avebury from a fate earlier documented by Stukely. P.S. I was there on May eve (quiet) but fabulous morning, very battery charging.
