Yeah read it, I am now re-reading it. because I have a very short memory...
I agree it tends to be written in novel style in places (I quite liked those bits - nothing wrong with a bit of background on some of the folks involved) and there are plenty of statistics/numbers for the purists to get into. My main problem with the book was his habit of introducing a subject then jumping off at a tangent, exploring something else, only to return to the original subject later on in the book.
Left me a little confused at times....
Mindyou, thats not difficult ;)
The guy seems to know his stuff though, there is evidently an awful lot of research in there.
Just wish he'd written it in a more linear style...

You've just reminded me, I thought I had a misprint when I started reading (I think) the first chapter.
It read so much like the middle of a chapter I had to check the page numbering a couple of times..

read it and liked it but have to agree with you chris, found myself abit confused at times, thought it was my lack of knowledge in the area, but read seahenge and others since and 'got' them and enjoyed them so maybe it is just his s tyle....
lots of people recommend it though....

The style sounds similar to Michael Dames'.

In Mythical Ireland he tends to say X beat up Y and so started a war with Z. No connection is ever made of Z before or afterwards.

I didn't actually realise this as I previously knew a fair bit of the characters and stories he was refering to. My partner pointed it out to me and I had to say "Ooh yeah!"
