Archaeologist Mike Pitts investigates the mystery
surrounding a 700-year-old skeleton which
appeared to have suffered a sword wound to the
head when it was discovered in Avebury in 1938.
With the help of forensic expert Anthea Boyleston,
he sets out to unravel the clues that could reveal
the final moments of the man's life and establish
whether he was murdered or merely the victim of a tragic accident

While mentioning TV progs:

There's a new series on BBC2 @ 7:30pm on Thursdays about Welsh megalithic sites. I missed tonights ... anyone catch it?

Mike Pitts - he's the bloke who wrote Hengeworld...

I'm about 3/4 of the way through it now, and not totally impressed (although it has some redeeming features). He's tried to write it as a sort of populist "thriller", but just can't resist slipping back into an archeological statistics freak every now and again, and he does seem to have his own agenda - a grand theory to foist on the rest of the world. And I prefer Julian's take on these things.

Mind you, I'm no expert, and at least he seems to be trying to be "scientific" and objective I guess. Anyone else read it?

Local newspapers have a report here

Maybe this was how the locals dealt with the travellers before the National Trust came along?
