hello everyone - new today to this site so didnt get the message last week about avebury car park being shut :-(

so, like just about everyone who'd driven there, got a ticket (very very luckily escaped being towed away like other poor souls were though)
unhappyabout the ticket as we'd asked a couple of bobbies as soon as we'd parked if we were ok where we were: on double yellows? no. causing an obstruction - no we're mainly of the road and in a ditch.

anyway, anyone else in the same situation? want to appeal as well? any ideas of how to word it?

My Bets,

Welcome to TMA, sorry to hear about your ticket, sounds like a rough deal to me.

I spent Solstice at Thornborough in North Yorkshire with a very nice people to hange ratio - 20 people, three henges - very atmospheric.

I didn't go, but I heard some people talking about it, who also got tickets.
I think you should complain direct to Swindon County Council. It seemed that the traffic wardens gave everyone a ticket. If there was not warning or signposts on the roads, parks or laybys, you should have a good case.

It makes me really annoyed that they spoilt such a good day for everyone.

mate of mine rang me up from there on Saturday afternoon, and said he was in the carpark

suprised me, but he's very pursuasive ...

It might help your appeal if you had some photos of where you were parked and the area surounding showing no parking restrictions - You might get away with going back there and taking photos just in case.

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum betsanboots (glad you took the plunge).

Did anyone else see this sort of stuff happening? Sounds to me like the Police and the NT are in cahoots on this one. They can't cordon off the village, so they're trying to limit the number of people with this restricted parking idea. I'm really interested in the bus service that the NT Web site was suggesting as an alternative.

The stupid thing is that most people are unlikely to check the NT Web site before visiting Avebury. It's not the kind of place that is usually controlled like this, so you'd expect it to be no problem parking there.

This year we went to Stanton Drew and avoided the crowds. It was tricky parking, but that was because there's never much parking in Stanton Drew, and I suspect that the Druids got the best places.

I got arrested!
Police stopped me in my car and breathalised me and told me I was Drunk!
Took me to Swindon main station and tested me on their big machine and the results were 9. The legal limit is 34.
So I walked.

There are no signs warning about parking or yellow lines.
If anyone need photos let me know.
PeteG (the sober.)

There are supposed to be posts up showing what the parking regulations are.
I was there and didn`t see any - did you? Perhaps PeteG can tell us if there are any there.
