Callanish

Callanish

I have been quiet for a couple of months (new motorbike - way too much fun)
however I am off to Callanish in a week.
Can you recommend a good guide book for the Isle of Lewis.
Can you recommend the cream of things to see on the Isle of Lewis, or indeed on the mainland as I will be passing through

I'll introduce myself tomorrow. Depending on your plans so far, my weblogs (as of tomorrow) may be relevant....

Any plans so far?

Go and see Ron and Margaret Curtis they are fantastic people with amazing enthusiasm for the stones and an immense knowledge which they love to impart, they also do a tour of the sites too.
Hope that this helps.

Where are you headed from and how long have you got? I did a 3 week Scottish tour last summer, taking a week to get to Callanish, a week on the Outer Isles, and another to get back. Lots of miles, over 50 ancient sites, some fabulous people, amazing places to camp ... can I come too please?

Have you figured out a way to hitch your caravan to your red rocket?
Have a good trip matey.

You can pick up a good book on the ferry over, or at the tourist info in Stornaway. It's called The Hebrides a guide to the islands of western Scotland by Martin Coventry. It's pocket sized (A6) and only costs £5.95. If your going through Inverness I'd recommend a stop of at the Clava Cairns, easy to find. Enjoy the trip.
