I remember that I felt that the ferry trip was a little long for a day trip. You can fly but it's much more expensive
When I went, the standard helicopter charge was £100 return. The plane was £80, but I got a special offer reduction and an early morning (08:15) flight for £50-odd.

No idea what today's prices are, but the helicopter service ends soon (1st Oct?) and the plane doesn't fly out of season as far as I know. That may change, but expect the price to go up as it's now the only real alternative to the ferry. 15 mins flight opposed to 3+ hours on the ferry?

We've been on the ferry every time we've been, it is a long trip but it's so much cheaper than flying (and G/F isn't keen on flying anyway). The last time we went it was really choppy, the bows were right out of the water. Neither of us get seasick, but on the lower decks it was pretty horrible with loads of people throwing up into paper bags! I went out on deck to get away from it. But the other times it's been calm as you like.
