I did St Mary's a few years ago, but all my postings on the topic seem to have been lost in the Great Cull - one reason I don't post much here any more. All the sites are listed here on TMA though.

Basically, from the airport I headed into town and up the hill, then went round the coast path (clockwise) to take in most of the major sites. There's a brief sojourn 'inland' for a standing stone, but most of the biggies are on the path.

It's about 7 miles or so right round, I did it in a day.

Thanks a lot, i'd wondered which way to walk, so i shall take your advice, and the great cull sounds quite sad, [as in- why get rid of mine not theirs?], so i'm sorry to hear about that!

Ocifant,

I may be wrong but can think of no reason why fieldnotes would have been culled, particularly if the sites remained listed. It is certainly not something the Eds routinely engage in. In the past some posts for holy wells have been deleted, but if you really have lost fieldnotes on obviously prehistoric sites (I'm assuming this was some years ago now) I can only imagine it to be a technical hitch (there was an issue with how they linked to the weblogs at one time).

TMA Ed.

I hired a bike and did it in a day as well.

Absolutely lovely place.
