If you have read anything about Crete and the Minoan's you will see what I am talking about. Not Matriarchy/Patriarchy but balance. This civilization was highly evolved and peaceful.

I agree it is rare that a woman should spear head a war, all the more reason to have a choice in the matter (wether to fight it or not). Most wars are created by men, which is not a slur on men but an indication of imbalance masculine/feminine. We all have masculine/feminine in us, it is not either/or but yes and both. Some men and women enjoy a fight. Some men and women don't. Men and women should not be forced to do or be something that goes totally against thier nature.

Without a doubt thier are inequalities on both sides but it has been created by our societies and is not a bilogical fact. Men and Women would not suffer if society came into balance but become partners instead of sparring partners. Obviously men can't have babies and I doubt there are many who wish they could. Men are stronger and usually more courageous (although this may be caused by society). All I am saying is that we are different yet equal and should play to our strengths whatever they may be. In balance.

I agree with your last two paragraphs whole heartedly.

I would like to know what you consider good writing on Crete et al. The rather plump little 'Mother' goddess figures found there at the turn of the last century are what started all this off. Some interpretations of them have had some bad repercussions and have given us some real codswallop that clutters up the scene.

Have you heard of Kathy Jones and if so, how do you feel about her work?
