So what did u make of the Timoney Stones? Real or folly?
Just visiting my ancestors!

I don't know really. I have a theory that says the bulk of them are genuine, with some mischievous loon muddying the waters a couple of hundred years later. There's one field that looks as if it just rained stones one day! I'm writing a short blog about my experience there that'll probably just add to the confusion. I wonder why the powers that be don't just excavate some of them. Surely there'd be some carbon-dating evidence.

Ya thats what i was just thinking today, there would have to be some carbon-dating. Plus if they prove to be genuine then they should take there place as being one of the most interesting sites in Ireland.
Look forward to your blog.

I spoke to Geraldine Stout recently about the Timoney Stones, she investigated them a good few years ago. Her feelings are that they are not prehistoric, I suggested they might be a folly put there by some eccentric landlord and she reckoned that could well be the case. There doesn't seem to be any folk traditions or mythology either, which is odd.
