I visited this site as I was at Tara on Saturday:

http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/2711

There were 'offerings' here, some of the more modern religious variety and some of the new age variety. They in no way detracted from the beauty of the place. In fact, in a way I'm glad they were there. I'm glad people still bother with this, interact and be creative with their (dare I say it) sacred places.

However, this is a well-tended site. The locals obviously love and look after it. Should hordes of the great unwashed show up and do their thang, I don't have to tell you what the response would be.

What can we do? Clean up and keep cleaning up and do some more cleaning up. When we're finished we could always clean up some more. :-)

There's not much more to add to that - you've just about said it all. Thank you.

That well has only recently had the landscaping and fence erected. A few years ago it looked like this: http://www.megalithomania.com/show/image/1339 : and no one bothered to visit it. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the people at the shop did the work. Until that was done the site never had offerings left at it.

I have no problem with offerings, when the practice has been going on for a long time. I am also aware that traditions have to start somewhere, who says modern people can't start something that will be thought of as a tradition in 200 years time? I just wish they wouldn't leave plastic tat and tealights.
