We noticed some cup-like carvings at the base of some pillars in the ruined Jedburgh Abbey in May last year.
I've uploaded some pics and remarks to BRAC on

Are there pics of the carvings in Kirkwall?
Cheers,

As well as Pica , which could be seen as a clinical condition , ground up rock is also ingested by those interested in reminerilsation , in the belief that it supplies minerals missing from our diet due to their depletion since the last glaciation.

The only pics I know are in the 1973 newspaper article, the sharply defined craters of the cupmarks looking like the pitmarks of erosion to my mind. They often occur with grooves and at one church were called löwenkratzen ' lion's claws'.

I'd honestly never heard of this.
