What about copicing? I know the Yew is not a tree we would associate with this but if it had been cut back at an earlier age would it not now by wider than if it had been left togrow natural? or am I talking rubbish!

Mr H

if it had been cut back at an earlier age would it not now by wider than if it had been left togrow natural?

I don't know, but I suppose coppicing would only be possible when it was young, and since the slowest growth is in old age any alteration to size would be have only a marginal influence on it's apparent age.
