Coflein description of this wooded site, shown on the OS 1/25000 as "fort": A roughly D-shaped enclosure, c.48m NE-SW by 58m, with its straight, SE side resting on steep natural slopes, elsewhere defined by up to four lines of banks and ditches. There is a NE facing entrance with possible outworks beyond A very large Bronze Age hoard was found in 1862 just to the south of this site, at SJ24761114 (guesstimate). The hoard included 120 pieces of metalwork, including palstaves, socketed axes, swords, spearheads, ferrules and chapes.
