| In Scotland most archaeology is done by arms length contractors brought in to do rescue archaeology or pre-housing development assessments, watching briefs etc. "Heritage" organisations like RCAHMS, Historic Environment Scotland etc. are a slightly different matter and have some real mavericks at large in their corridors.
