Welsh has always fascinated me, for a variety of reasons... some good, some not so good.
Place names can be very prosaic... banal even (e.g the Big, bare, round hill) or utterly beguiling (e.g The Slippery Hill of the Witch). The nomenclature is very much localised, totally at odds with this era of mass communication and express travel, a lingering reminder of times when folk lived their entire lives within the radius of a few miles.
