Guns are very much not my thing... obviously.... unless I really had no choice but to use one. However in my naivety guess I assumed these would be deeper?

More to the point, though, is the fact that, assuming it is a shell crater, does the army really need to blast holes in what I presume is a scheduled monument. Isn't that what we've fought to protect?
