Not so much in Wessex, but I found my Garmin invaluable on Exmoor last weekend. Stone settings of 3-4 stones each a foot high, all in heather over a foot high!
Also used to find the cup marked stone on fyfield down :)
And finally with a little bit of hacking the gps file can be turned into a google maps kml file and be loaded alongside the TMA and portal sites!
