One thing that comes to my mind is that surely if this were true, then there should also be also representative figures in the landscape marked out by stone circles. In particular those of a similar size to Avebury, I'm thinking perhaps Stanton Drew as a prime candidate.
If the author was able to show figures at other analogous sites then I think the theory would hold greater weight.
As things stand this is on a par with the Glastonbury Zodiac and faces in the stones at Avebury. The human mind seeing patterns where there are none.
