The Beeb [or anyone else for that matter] have never openly come out and stated that Atkinson's efforts were amateurish. They will admit to 'failings' but without pointing any fingers at the person responisble. It is about time they re-examined his reports and discounted what is worthless, and learned from their mistakes rather than preserve the memory and not offend his family.
