Thanks for the link pete!! Fascinating stuff.

The bit about low ones http://www.sundog.clara.co.uk/rainbows/primalt.htm doesn't QUITE make sense with the photo they've used tho - or mine that I posted the link to a bit earlier, coz they say "this bow's centre was 39º below the horizon and its top stood up only 3º above it " but NONE of it's above the horizon.

Also, with mine the sun was actually fairly low....

They say a bit further on Parts of a bow can often be seen below the horizon against a backdrop of fields or the ground, which fits mine & the one they've shown. But they don't seem to say how or why....
