Yes, there is no connection to Bride or Brigid, but its a nice concept. Pudding stones are glacial erratics comprising of pebbles in a natural cement matrix. Apart from a few scarce sarsens, these are the only large rocks in the boulder clay country of Essex and Herts. So they are rare and are likely to have been highly regarded and special in the neolithic. Local folklore calls them breeding stones because they consist of lots of little "baby" stones - the pebbles which gradually become detatched as the softer matrix erodes. They are also called growing stones because they are gradually exposed from the soft clay river beds as the mud is washed away and so appear to grow. Very magical stones indeed! Thanks for the kind words on Scilly - my spiritual home, but I can't afford to live there.
