London history help?

Please can anyone point me (netwise or otherwise) to somewhere dealing with the history of t John's Wood, London? My goodly wife schooled at Barrow Hill School, and seems to remember that it was reputed to be haunted owing to it's location, on (I believe she said) Romanized prehistoric grounds? Now is it called Barrow Hill on account of a tumulus or is it local parlance for street traders (Barrow Boys!) Any search I've made on the web reveals an almost total lack of archaeological evidence for pre-Roman London (sic). Not surprising really I know!
