Cloghafadd

Court Tomb

About the best view I could get of the tomb. It was very difficult to photograph well. Its also a pity someone has felt the need to use the site as a storage area for large fenceposts. Wandering about, you get the feeling the tomb was aligned to that notch visible in the clifftop of Fair Head.

Court Tomb

The tomb, viewed from the south, over one of the many piles of field clearance stones littered about the area. I wonder how many of them belong to the tomb...

Wedge Tomb

A view over the tomb, from close to Cloghafadd Court Tomb, towards the Crannog on Lough na Crannagh, and over the cliffs of Fair Head to Rathlin Island. The tomb is towards the bottom-left of the image, with a black cow lying down nearby.

Ballyvennaght

Portal Tomb

This little feature caught my eye on the way back to the car. there is a small pit about 1.5m in diameter behind this lintel-like stone, with numerous stones lying in front of it. I’d guess it was maybe some kind of cist burial, or the remains of a booley house?

View to the west, over Loughareema ‘The Fairy Lough’ – also called the ‘Vanishing Lake’ due to its ability to fill up to about 25ft, and empty again within the space of a few days.
