Difficult to spot from the west or from up the hillside, as it’s disguised as erratics – great view though....
Could that be Maen Penddu standing stone on the horizon, a fraction left of centre?
From higher ground to east, with Monument 280 in background
Circle from short distance up track from parking place, looking SW
Bryn Derwydd in foreground, Red Farm circle stones over wall on right of pic
The 4 Red Farm circle stones in their wide upland ‘valley‘
From the tree-covered hummocks overlooking Capel Garmon
The circle and its immediate surroundings in the thrall of Corndon Hill (for Rhiannon)
The views around to the SW and west are gorgeous, contrasting with Corndon Hill rearing up to the south and giving extra drama
Looking SWish – barrows in left background, just ‘this’ side of trees
The stones are a bit hard to see as the light was lousy, but they are there !!! (About 6 or 7 medium to large sarsens distinctly on the circumference of a circle and with a slight platform. There are 4 or 5 in this pic.)
Look hard & you’ll see at least 3 or 4 stones
The circle as I descended into the valley. Unfortunately (!) a bunch of reprobates were hanging about the stones, so I couldn’t get a ‘clear’ shot....
Other than from the side of the valley it’s difficult to get a decent shot of the circle, and with the poor light I didn’t try very hard! I’ll try again in the summer when the light’s better & have more time!!!
The line of sarsens noted by Merrick. Cerytainly look like they’ve been moved into a line, but when & for what purpose isn’t clear. They ‘feel’ more like some kind of boundary than ‘barrow’ stones to me.
The sculpture mentioned in various fieldnotes. It’s a giraffe!!! Note horns above ears & tapering of snout. Will remove if people feel this pic is not appropriate for TMA.
The slope & ‘proportions’ of Silbaby (right, with trees) clearly echo Silbury. Surely this can’t be coincidence? Though that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s ancient. Of course, it could also be so ancient that Silbury echoes it!!!!!
East chamber – these are seriously craggy lumps of stone!
The tomb’s mound is clearly visible, even more so from a distance
The entrance was a bit overgrown, but easily negotiable
