This boulder can be found on the southern slope of Helman Tor in an area recently cleared of undergrowth. A hut circle has been uncovered nearby but what interested me about this boulder was the carved ‘guttering’ along its edge.

The frozen pool reminded me of a labyrinth maze.

The ‘replacement’ stone sits surrounded by road signs...but where is the original?

Looking south on a glorious sunny evening in mid April.

With its stone setting exposed...how long before this one falls over?

Forestry in Jane’s previous photo is being stripped away.

Found this on e-bay whilst searching for information on India!, It comes from May 1922 and was published in the Illustrated London News describing Stonehenge as a prehistoric Westminster Abbey, Exchange and Epsom all rolled into one! I think the artist is W Robinson but it is hard to make out.
Note to ‘backwater of the Avon and landing stage for traders’ bottom right.

Taken several years ago on good old Fujifilm...nearing sunset on Midsummers day..I wasn’t that interested in stones at the time, we just happend to find ourselves in Boleigh Farm Campsite and it was one of those evenings.

From the southern end of the row looking back towards White Tor.

Looking north with tree marked to aid direction.
P.s. the arrow is no longer there...

Information sheet beside the stones in North Cornwall Museum.

eastern cairn looking south towards Brown Willy

eastern cairn, larger, flatter and flooded.

Stones line up with gap between two ‘cheesewrings‘

The western tip of the island, where the stone once stood. The sea here was a maelstrom of waves and must have been a terrifying place for prehistoric man. The view west looks out through a channel south of Mull and north of the mainland.

Looking towards the summit of Ben More (left of centre) This was the best view we had of it all day...conditions on the summit had been blizzard like when we got there with a good covering of snow.

Looking NW towards Ulva.

View from carpark at Dervaig B

Confusing sign at car park...the stones are not 1.7 kms away, just a short stroll into the plantation

The northern stone....this would have been some row when all the stones were standing.

Spring sun shines through the pines..

Hillsons House...built from the stones of the main cairn on Stalldown, the wall nearest the camera is a modern addition as Crossing only mentions three walls when he visited in the late 1800s.

Cairn just west of summit of stone row, not easily spotted in dead grass. SX633625

The mighty Stalldown Row...what more need be said?

The last four stones...looking north

Looking south west towards Plymouth Sound from the highest point of the row.

Looking down the row from near the summit
