Opened Long ago, but still here on this moorland
Difficult to get a pic of the expanse of these circles. Absolutely Awesome – with the cheesewring in the distance it really is an impressive site
Despite being right beside the busy road ( watch out it’s pretty dangerous!!!!) This site has a real peacefullness about it – a kind of serenity about it. The tree growing around the stones gives an idea of how long they’ve been there

A blissfull Blistering Hot day 2001 Sept.
On a SUNNY day in Sept 2001, me & Joolio visited. The stones sparkle in the sunlight.
We met a couple of oldsters who were visiting too, they spotted the Modern Antiquarian and said “oh, we’ve got that too” –
Fun for all ages!!!
One Piper – FMD kept us away – we’ll be back
Foot & Mouth Disease prevented us from getting any closer to the Pipers. Nice location!!!!!
a fantastic day for circling Sep 2001
It really does look like the capstone could slide off at any minute. 2001
Spy Hole 2001
Seems mies from anywhere, but not too far from the main road
Even though it was only September, a bleak dark evening up at the plague market

Just before Dusk 2000
Just across the road from Torhousekie, at 384565. This row of low round stones was pictured jsut as dusk was falling in the summer of 2000. Torhousekie is in the background behind my car

A big lad – if you know what I mean. Can’t rival the aerial photo, but not bad
The Monument is all that marks Gefrin
With Humbleton Hill In The Background.
Sited about 20m from the main A697 road about 1.25 miles NW of Wooler the battleston sits in a field on the right hand side.
Age? Not sure. though it is rumoured to have been raised after the Battle of Humbleton Hill. So maybe not that old.
About 5’7” high
Land Of The Hillforts.
Each of the hills pictured has the remains of a hillfort at its’ summit. Yeavering Bell is particularly impressive from the air.
On a small hillock, above the village of Wooler. This is more accessible than the other Northumbrian Hillforts, probably much more recent.
The view of the Milfield Plain from here is fantastic.
Part of the remains of the threestone burn circle
A Cup & Channel carving
The most extensively carved rock. Three rings in alignment with others surrounding.
Detail of the Maelmin totem entry posts
Views of the reconstructed henge at Malmin near Milfield. The Ring marks are inscribed on the “entry posts”
A View of The Milfield Plain from Humbleton Hill Fort. The hills to the left house many hillforts, The ancient town of Gefrin lies at the foot of these.
Milfield & its Henges stretch right from there. In the distance Duddo Five stones lies. Heading towards the right lies Routing Linn with its famous carved rocky outcrop. Rising up from the other side of the vally lie Doddington, Weetwood Moor & Fowberry with their Rock Carvings. Far right on the picture would be Green Castle lying above the village of Wooler.
Re-enact The Great Escape on The Tomb Of The Eagles Trolley & You’ll talk aboot it for mony a year
Caked In Snow. Cool!
New Years Day 2002CE
Protected from the elements by glass covers – but amazing, lets hope they survive as long again as their deep history
Fantastic to think that if it weren’t for a great storm, we might never have known about Skara Brae.
Another great Storm trashed our tent – but that’s another story (one we’ll talk about for years to come – me & my friend)
As always, we trecked across the hill the long way, passing a particularly scary fat man out jogging.
Fantastic Views
Late Evening Sept 2000
Excellent Site, but then it is on Orkney!
Is it just me, or does this rockfrom the main site look like a homage to Easter Island (Or Possibly Homer Simpson)
what a place to Chill. Early morning or late evening is quietest

You might have to wait around to get some tranquility, but what a place
You gotta go – they are in a fantastic setting.
Very Busy site though, coach loads of bloody tourists.
Watch out for the americans, wanted to wreak vengance on the ones who took their shoes off to walk on the top of the cairns – idiots
Martian indeed. Pic Aug 2001
The first time we went, our road atlas was wrong and we thought we had missed them. We were just about to do a U turn on the singler track road, when – WOW!
Went back this year and I must be a lot fatter, cos it was a struggle getting in.
Mick captures me at the Rollrights before my waist exploded
Five Stanes,
On my lonesome on a weekend in the Western Lowlands, I found myself here chatting to the guy in the pic. He talked about how his life was full of multiple coincidences.
Just the previous evening I had phoned my mother from Newton Stewart (Tourhousekie) not having had a destination for the weekend I ended up somewhere I had never been before. She told me it was her wedding anniversary. Thirty Three years ago that very day she had spent her Honeymoon....... In Newton Stewart
Sun Beating Down – I Hung out here alone for about an hour. Left feeling at peace
Woooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaahhh.
What a fantastic circle
Still My Favourite Site.
The Neolithic Property Developers, hit Gold here – Location! Location! Location!
The Five Gnarled Brothers Stand Beneath the Old Cheviot – Blissful.
I used to play golf up on this windy hill as a kid, I remember seeing the markings, but didn’t make the connection until a couple of years ago.
One of my favourite views looking over the Milfield Plain and too the Cheviots
