The stones are really very small.....
The stones are really very small.....
One of the excavated passages
Looking into one of the satellite passages
At least I could get close to one of the passages
Looking down on the kerbstone, there is no decoration at all on the back and it is much smaller than it seems from the front.
What a beautiful stone, hard to photograph though, due to the hordes of folks! This was my 5th attempt; the first time someone hadn’t just wandered into the shot!
This doesn’t do it justice – it is HUGE!
Vicky standing in the ditch – it really is much deeper than it appears.
Looking into the passage through the metal gate. It looks neglected and uncared for.
The carved stone in the passage way.
looking into the side chamber
Looking into the right hand side chamber
One of the decorated stones in the passage way.
Standing in the passage, looking into the main chamber
Looking into the chamber from the entrance (with Vicky holding torch!)
Looking out from inside the chamber
Beautiful weathered stones, covered in moss. Magical.
Imagine the views if the trees weren’t there.....
The heady combination of stones and trees, you gotta love it!
I loved these 2 stones, you can imagine them gleaming in the moonlight.
Another arty shot looking through the tree towards the stones.
Me trying out an arty shot from across the top of the largest stone. Not sure it worked!
An almost magical setting (if you don’t mind biting insects and nettles!)
July 2006
The stone was hard to see in amongst the trees and shrubs
Not necessarily within the remit of TMA, I know, but lying on top of Hully Hill, this is how close the planes come in above your head. Sad...
July 2006
Yet another plane approaches Edinburgh airport direclty over the cairn,
July 2006
I’m really not sure you could see a more hideous juxtaposition of cultures.....the McHully stone.
July 2006
This stone looks like Frankenstein’s monster!
July 2006
Bastards!
July 2006
One of the saddest sights/sites I have ever seen (hence the odd face!)
July 2006
Just how big were the trees which fit into these postholes?
July 2006
The moss is so green it looks like it has been painted onto the stones!
July 2006
Looking towards Wet Sleddle
The stones seem even more beautiful in the shadow of such ugliness
The cup and ring mark
Vicky screamed and ran round the field when I pointed out the faces on this stone!
Summer 2005. Magnificent!
The mist and rain adds atmosphere but doesn’t make for easy photography.....
July 2006
I think I’ll return one day, when the sun is shining!
July 2006
Big puddles everywhere!
July 2006
The surrounding hills shrouded in mist, we almost missed seeing Blakeley Raise!
