GLADMAN

The path starts by an enigmatic rickety bridge crossing the Maesnant...

An audience with the piper dudes upon Pupers Hill, Dartmoor

A quick glimpse of a rather fine hillfort in exceptional countryside.

A pretty substantial round cairn some way to the west of the summit cairn.

Looking across to Esgair y Llwyn from Esgair Rhiwlan

Brief panorama of this remote spot, the key to a visit to numerous sites in the immediate locale... or just to admire the cascading Afon Ystwyth.

Surely among South Wales’ lesser-known great tombs?

This is the vista from the large monument to the approx north-east of the summit pair of cairns. Worth riding out a morning storm to enjoy the moment.

A bracing, 360-degree view from Crugyn Gwyddel, Esgair Pen-y-Garreg, Cwmdeuddwr Hills

Panorama from the summit of Higher White Tor. Fantastic viewpoint …plus possible hints of a ‘tor cairn’?

The ‘Green Desert’ of Cwmdeuddwr from Pen-y-Bwlch summit cairn

An ‘aerial view’ of the site, pausing upon the ascent of Banc Llechwedd-mawr

Perched upon ‘Branscombe’s Loaf’ in an attempt to obtain an aerial view of the tor cairn.

Freezing winter’s day upon Waun-y-Gwair (Twynau Gwynion) SO07621198, looking to the heart of The Brecon Beacons

A massive Bronze Age cairn crowns Huntingdon Hill upon Dartmoor. It is known as Huntingdon Barrow or, more interestingly perhaps, ‘Heap of Sinners’, the latter epithet clearly demonstrating the fear these wondrous, enigmatic places installed within the Christian faithful. More fool them, I say.

Overlooking the beautiful Cwm Berwyn within Y Carneddau, a small range of hills to the north-east of Builth Wells.

… untrodden Ceredigion.

Some would have you believe Pumlumon is a boring, sodden wilderness... and not an upland cairn aficionado’s dream destination.

Cairnucopia... upon Rippon Tor, Dartmoor

A summer moment upon the Bronze Age summit cairn of Pen y Garn, Cwmdeuddwr Hills. Don’t be deceived by the blue sky... it was freezing.

The large Bronze Age cairn can be seen beyond, to the approx south-west.

Glorious – if rather wobbly – panoramic views from the great cairn upon Carneddau Hill

Might as well be on another planet.... Ground Control to Major Tom.............

A very rough shufty of what it’s like upon Carn Hyddgen...

Inspiring new generations?

This is how I like my popular art.... analogue synthesizers... and the Tursachan!

Incidentally..... the Ultravox video that first inspired me to one (small) day make the pilgrimage to Callanish is (@April 2021) here:
