The Puckstone

I’ve been here a few times recently, and it appears the bracken has been cut back!

I picked my way to the top of this low mound, and saw what I presumed to be just the tip of the rocky outcrop that I assumed the Puckstone to be. Maybe that was the alleged standing stone?

I was walking along near the Agglestone last weekend, and could see the Puckstone silhouetted against the sky – it looked a LOT more prominent than my previous visit... I’ll see if any of my pics show this in any detail.

The Puckstone

[visited 24/12/02] Apparently there is a standing stone on top of the possibly natural mound. I located a couple of possibles amongst the bracken, but I may have missed the actual Puckstone due to the bracken. The Agglestone is very obvious to the South.

The Puckstone
Standing Stone / Menhir

Unsurprisingly, the Puckstone’s alternative name is the Fairy Stone. Heaths can be weird places.

The stone is marked on the 1:25000 map – perhaps juamei missed it because he wasn’t in quite the right spot? It’s north of the Agglestone, right by a track. It’s the same type of rock as the ‘holy’ stone, but apparently with a scarier reputation.
