Everstorfer Forst Süd 2

Everstorfer Forst Süd 2 also known as Teufelsbackofen (Devil’s Oven) is an extended dolmen within a round barrow. It belongs to the southern group of the Everstorfer Forst Megalithic Cemetery and is one of three well-preserved tombs south of the B105. It sits within the kerb of a small round barrow, of which 14 or 13 of the originally 24 kerbstones survive. It is an east-west oriented dolmen built from seven supporting stones and two capstones: two stones on three sides each, plus a half-stone on the access side. The chamber measures 2.5 m long, 1.8 m wide and 1.4 m high. The eastern, entrance-side capstone carries numerous Bronze Age cup marks up to 6 cm across and 3 cm deep, some even on its underside facing into the chamber; the second capstone shows only a few of these. The site was excavated and reconstructed in 1966. The smaller capstone, which had been displaced, was replaced. The stones of the enclosure had been displaced to varying degrees; here, a circular arrangement was restored.

To get to the tomb, walk south from the car park, cross the B105 and continue straight ahead along a forest path. After about 30 metres instead of turn left to Everstorfer Forst Süd 1 continue on the forest path for further 150 m . Here a forest path leads to the east (left). After 35 m a forest path to the right leads you to a small clearing with the tombs Teufelsbackofen and Everstorfer Forst Süd 3.
