The cairn in the foreground with extended walking pole laid across it to show how small it is. I couldn’t see anything that might be described as a ‘capstone’ as mentioned in the Coflein record, but a cairn of only 1.2m diameter isn’t really big enough for a cist, surely, unless the cist is somewhere nearby? Looking towards the steep slopes of Moel Hebog, with Cnicht and Y Moelwynion beyond to the left.

That's cool.... last time I was here I think a certain Mr Cope hadn't even thought about writing his day-glo tome.... so wouldn't have understood what this was.
I must admit I was looking for something a bit more substantial! But a brilliant hill, I really enjoyed the path up through the cliffs. I doubt I'll ever come up here again, but I'm glad I found it. There's some suggestion on Coflein of another cairn on the cliffs, but I hadn't the energy to look, it was a much harder walk than I had bargained on, what with aging legs and feet!
I've had an ascent from Cwm Llefrith on 'the list' for about 5 years now, so looking more and more unlikely, to be fair. But hey. You can't go back everywhere.
Sadly so!
If you mean the ‘getting too old for it’ bit tell the now seventy year old me about it. There’s also the the retrospective appreciation of danger. No more cliff climbs or peat bogs for moi. Must’ve been totally daffy or had scant regard for self worth or the effect a mishap would have had on others. Was thinking of one or two past japes this morning before coincidentally reading your comment. Best to judge whether is best to just treasure the memory - if treasure is the right word. One or two scared shitless experiences. I increasingly prefer not to go solo these days.
I had some scared shit less experiences right at the start - the old "immediately get back on the horse or do something else" scenario, so always well aware climbing is a serious business. Never conquered my fear of hill fog, which is perhaps a good thing. No fear = idiot in my book.
Had a couple of experiences with the fast moving sort… on top of the Clwydians wasn’t too bad as I knew where the path down was.. but on Redmires near Stanage was a bit rattling. Eyes always peeled - you just don’t appreciate how quick things can change
