Now apparently this sizeable kerb cairn doesn’t appear to be listed and I stumbled upon it quite by accident and curiosity. Wanting to see Jura/Islay and various forts/duns on the mainland, to the east, I climbed the Cnoc Nan Gobhar – hill of goats, same as the nearby standing stone. Cross the road, there is a gate/path and up the hill slightly to the north. Reasonably easy climb. I was also hoping to spy the Kinerach cist to the east. I didn’t but I did spy several fern covered mounds, one of which housed the well hidden cist.
The cairn is at least 10m wide, over 1m tall, most of the kerbs have remained in place and a lot of cairn material remains in place possibly covering a small chamber or cist.
A decent cairn, situated fairly close to two of the island’s better known cairns.

Hi Drew, well done for sniffing… I’ve only seen this post after making another replying comment on the site of the stone down below this find. Have you reported this new site yet and, if so, to whom? Any person’s name? Last time I had a squint at Trove I found it difficult to navigate from my primitive mobile. I have a quite a bit of stuff to notify on Gigha and Colonsay and I don’t want my reports to be ‘lost in the chaff’. I’ve started making Cassie-Jo the Ranger aware of my finds on Gigha and Kevin MacByrne for those on Colonsay but would like to cement these reports by notifying other bodies too.
Cassie-Jo told me the next visit of officialdom might be two years hence but if it’s when the bracken and briars are up they needn’t bother coming - the end of April is the absolute latest in my opinion… even the bluebells hide stuff!
