Interesting - I was just at Pluscarden Abbey near Elgin and there are some nearby mounds which gave me pause for thought. Your post reminded me to check Moray Historic Environment and give it a quick google, but nothing came up. Still I wouldn't be surprised if there was prehistoric activity around the site of what is now the abbey.
