Well done for making it, Drew. Worth it eh? I still haven’t posted all my pix from May, oops! Plenty of unrecorded stuff visible before the bracken erupts. We’re already booked to go back next year for more.. a little bit of unspoilt paradise.
Might see you there, we're going back as well, it looks a small place, to get to some of the sites is an adventure (not this one). Few cairns covered with ferns etc. Even went to a talk about beekeeping at the wee museum. Loved it - a Jura but much smaller.
Great people too.. I was given very helpful info in addition to my own sniffs. I’ve subsequently read in an old guidebook that the Hotel has/had a good info board about the island’s archaeology. Didn’t go in this time. Looks like we’ve been concentrating on different parts of the island from the sites you’ve uploaded so far. Oronsay was a nono due to the state of the tide: looks a ‘must’ for next time. I drove half way across on the causeway then chickened out/ saw sense
We were defeated by the tides to Oronsay as well, good info from Post Office, obviously I was interested in the hotel :-) We were in Kilchattan, first thing we saw every morning were the Limpet Standing stones, but looked all over. Bought the Lonely Colonsay book, pretty good, bought the Scalasaig whisky and gin from the distillery just along the road from we were based.
The Colonsay Bitter was lovely… so good they discontinued it. Used to get it on Calmac ferries. We were up near Kiloran Bay: gorgeous. Both types of eagles, lots of corncrakes, bluebells, Northern Lights, great sites with legwork, new sites lurking.. gotta stop there, sniff. Roll on ‘25 _/\_
