Liking these, but tell us, are the farmers of Vendee particularly destructive?
Its not just the Vendee, its all over France. The huge land Barons and Factory farms create huge wealth with little apparent concern for the environment or history. However, having said that I do go on about it too much with insufficient evidence outside of the sites I come across which begrudgingly are left in the corner of a field, ploughed within an inch of their life and left to overgrow presumably hoping they will go away sometime in the future. Against that, sites that are nominated of historical value are well cared for, fenced off from the farm and usually cleared on a regular basis, albeit the locations end up looking slightly artificial. Against that I keep going back to the North West of France so guess time to cut the moaning out and just appreciate it. Footnote: Wasn't helped on this trip by only finding a few overgrown stones where two dolmen once stood and being chased by a dog which I had seen, however, assumed it was tied up as cattle were in the neighbouring fields.
