I'm not able to get out as much or as far as I used to, but when I do I take screenshots of site locations from the sites and monuments database that frequently drops you right on top of the location to the nearest metre. I e-mail the maps to the phone and don't bother with the SLR or even the pocket camera. I still use the old OS maps to drive to the destination, but more and more all I need is the phone. It's a Brave New World.
Yeah it's unbelievable how things have changed since I first started looking up sites on Megalithomania.com or IrishMegaliths.org. I remember looking longingly at a GPS unit with colour maps that cost over half a grand!
Now I have been able to import the entire Modern Antiquarian site catalogue into the View Ranger app on my phone so I can view and locate sites even while offline on OS maps or satellite images.
Now even the NMI database and maps are viewable on a phone or tablet while out and about.
Didn't know that last bit Ken. Just tried it there. Works great here in Dublin with 4G coverage. Up the side of a mountain might be more challenging. But still great all the same. Thanks for the tip.
Love that, what a great image.
iPhone 5S would you believe?
I would, very decent cameras in phones now.
