After wondering around this section of the forest for a good half an hour we came to the conclusion that this might be the candidate for the chambered grave marked on the map. Horribly overgrown and with a fallen tree covering it, it still exuded a certain charm. Of course we could be completely wrong and somebody else may know the whereabouts of some glorious site tucked snugly in the conifers!

Hi there,
Anthony Weir has this to say: ~ 3 km NNE of Beaghmore in Davagh forest are Davagh Lower double stone circle, alignment of three stones, part of another stone circle, and (600 metres SW) a low wedge-tomb whose roofstones are still in place." Here: irishmegaliths.org.uk/tyrone.htm

Hi Ryaner,
Many thanks for this. Interesting! Still not sure whether this is what we thought it was, but we definitely found the other site near the river. Photos to follow shortly. Do you know these sites?
No I don't, first I heard of them was when you posted. Burl mentions the circles in his stone circle books and the alignments in his stone row book. I'll look up the entries tomorrow to see if there's mention of the tomb.
I've been to Beaghmore and a couple of other sites in Tyrone – I haven't ventured north of the border too much for the usual reason – so much to see and so little time.
I know exactly what you mean! We were only in the area for a couple of days but there's so much to see, you're almost tripping over it. And Beaghmore - absolutely stunning! Probably in my top five sites visited.
