| In 1942 when I was 4 years old, my mom and I stayed with Elsie and Charlie Hicks at 4, Rifleman Street Risca. My dad was stationed near there as part of the smoke screen regiment. My memories of Twmbarlwm are of a low flying Spifire or Hurricane flying past just below us and the pilot waving and wagging his wings. We picked wimberries on the slopes and also on the slopes of Machen mountain by the rocks called Devils Apron Strings. We spent about 3 months of the years 1942, 3, 4, 5 at Rifleman Street and I went to school with Janice, Elsies niece. I remember falling into the paddling pool close by Crumlin viaduct . happy memories |
